Refunds, COVID 19 and the travel roulette.

A number of people have asked about the policy for refunds in light of possible travel restrictions, so first the refund details.

Refunds are available for registration at the Australian Endorsed Midwife Conference up until three months prior to the conference and you are able to change from in-person to online attendance up until two months prior to the conference.

Understandably, some people are concerned about travel restrictions being imposed and either being stuck in Mackay or having to quarantine for two weeks after they return home, and while there are never any guarantees in life, as midwives, we know we can look at all the available information a make an informed choice from that.

Some things to consider.

As of February 7, 2021, the Mackay region has had a total of 16 cases of COVID 19, in a population of 116,500 people, with no currently active cases https://www.qld.gov.au/health/conditions/health-alerts/coronavirus-covid-19/current-status/statistics

Queensland currently has 6 active cases of COVID in a population of over 5 million people.

Mackay has daytime temperatures ranging from 21 to 30 throughout the year, with lots of parks, National Parks, and outdoor leisure areas, making congregation inside less likely, and the spread of viral particles potentially less frequent than in areas where winter temperatures force people indoors.

For those people who decide that the risk of travel is too great, the conference has an live-stream option, which you can watch from the comfort of your own home and which will be recorded for you to watch later if, for example, you are called out to attend a birth in the middle of the conference.

For those who decide that Mackay sounds like a fairly safe option and want to come and mingle in person, we look forward to seeing you here….and remember to bring your sunscreen.
